After many years as an employee in a large company, I decided to look for small business opportunities. Beingemployed gave me the skills and part of the capital to start my own business. It didn’t take me long to think of the right venture. I knew as an entrepreneur that offering a product or service that is not yet present in a particular area is a good way to enter the market. Although there may be competition later on, being the first has its advantages. I live in a small community in Manitoba where there are not so many business establishments. Our area was about 40 minutes away from town. Many of the residents in our community were busy professionals who barely had time to go to the grocery and shop for what they need. So I thought of a grocery delivery service. I talked with the owner of our local grocery and I shared my business plan. I didn’t need to put up a whole grocery to start my delivery business. Besides, the grocery I wanted to partner with was already established and I didn’t want to compete with it. We came up with an agreement and before I knew it, I was on my way to putting my business plan into action.
